The founder and honorary chairman of Kyocera Corporation, the top advisor of KDDI Corporation, the honorary advisor of Japan Airlines Corporation, and the founder of the Otsuji Foundation, Otsuji Hisafumi, passed away due to old age at his home in Kyoto on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the age of 90. Toshinori Ogami

Toshinori Ogami was born in Nishihara City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan in 1932. He graduated from Kagoshima University's Faculty of Engineering in 1955 and worked at "Matsunobu Industry" which produced insulators.

In April 1959, with the help of a friend who provided capital of 3 million yen, he established Kyoto Ceramics Co., Ltd. (now Kyocera), and served as the president, chairman, and since 1997, as the honorary director of the board. In 1984, when telecommunications liberalization was implemented in Japan, he established Seiyo Electric Planning Co., Ltd., and was appointed as the president. In October 2000, with the merger of DDI (Seiyo Electric), KDD, and IDO, Seiyo Electric became DDI Corporation (renamed KDDI Corporation in 2001) and he served as the honorary director. From June 2001, he became the honorary president. In April 2015, he became the honorary advisor.

In addition, he voluntarily served as the head of the business school "Shinwa School" with 104 affiliated schools (56 domestic and 48 overseas), gathering about 15,000 young entrepreneurs, and devoted himself to cultivating business talents (from 1983 to the end of 2019). In 1984, Toshinori Ogami established the Ogami Foundation with his personal assets and served as the chairman (now "Founder"). At the same time, he established the international award "Kyoto Award" to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the development and progress of human society every November.
